“Special Objects”

…is what I called these artworks while pitching a gallery visit recently, and the label rings true.

I’m planning on keeping print at the centre of my practice, and as collectors ask me for larger artworks, I find I’m not interested in moving away from my beloved Vandercook (the letterpress). This means my prints will stay smallish, and that I plan to use them as parts of larger compositions and mixed-media artworks.

The Comfort House Project

The first artwork I made in this vein was The Comfort House Project in 2023. It contains 11 linocut reductions and took two years to make. It exists in a hypothetical edition of 9 (4 are with collectors, the fifth has been made, and the prints for 6-9 are waiting in the wings). The Comfort House Project is rooted in conversations with the 12 real people who became the protagonists of each print (room). You can read more about it here.

Branching Out (2025) is interactive. When a viewer turns the handle on the front, three proofs of Moving (on) Day rotate within the viewfinder and show that the print matches itself to make a pattern.

Inspired by Paper theatres and the performane of daily life

I haven’t used coloured pencil this much since university and I LOVE IT.

The purpose of this work is to have fun and push the boundaries of my existing practice (maybe all of printmaking). I’m investing in playfulness and wonder.
